Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS NYCO RENAISSANCE?
NYCO Renaissance is committed to an artistically vibrant and financially sound renewal of the city’s beloved opera company, New York City Opera.
We are a registered 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation (FEIN: 46-5145029; NYS: 44-56-72) that is working to purchase certain of the assets of New York City Opera through a Section 363 bankruptcy sale. New York City Opera has selected the NYCO Renaissance proposal from among a number of others to purchase its assets -- including intellectual property assets such as its name and trademark -- and has signed an agreement to that effect.
The proposed transaction remains subject to bankruptcy court approval, but once that is obtained and the transaction closes, NYCO Renaissance will be renamed New York City Opera and a crown jewel in the New York City cultural scene will be reborn.
When Will Performances begin?
We will announce our 2015-16 season in Spring 2015. You can expect exciting new productions of favorite operas, as well as the New York premiere of a great American work. The VOX Contemporary Opera Lab, which showcases new American opera, will be revived in collaboration with American Opera Projects.

I HAD TICKETS TO NEW YORK CITY OPERA PRODUCTIONS THAT WERE NOT PRODUCED. CAN I GET A REFUND FROM NYCO RENAISSANCE?
Unfortunately, no. NYCO Renaissance is a newly formed, registered 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation that is working to purchase some of the assets of New York City Opera through a Section 363 bankruptcy sale. The acquisition will be free and clear of substantially all liens, claims and encumbrances against the New York City Opera, including claims asserted by former ticket holders and subscribers.
That said, in order to engage those opera lovers who are former New York City Opera pre-paid ticket holders and subscribers, our Asset Purchase Agreement contemplates NYCO Renaissance offering those individuals discounts to our first season, in exchange for a waiver of claims against the New York City Opera bankruptcy estate.
